What is BHRT?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a treatment program designed to treat symptoms caused by lowered or imbalanced hormone levels. Imbalanced hormones can begin to manifest at any age and may be the cause of a wide range of symptoms. BHRT can treat the root cause of these symptoms, and may drastically improve quality of life for individuals with low or imbalanced hormone levels. Take the following quiz to see if BHRT is right for you!

During an in-office visit, a patient is brought into the exam room, and the insertion site, usually somewhere around the upper buttocks, is numbed. A small incision is made, and the hormone pellet inserted. After, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage. The pellet dissolves, and the body absorbs the contents, leaving nothing behind. Every patient’s symptoms are unique, so each journey is customized to fit your needs. Some patients report seeing improvement in as little as four weeks, but full optimization can take up to six months.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fasting Required Before an Insertion?

No fasting is required in advance of the insertion.

What Blood Tests Are Required Before the Insertion?

Certified BioTE providers require extensive lab work while considering a patient’s candidacy for BHRT using pellets. A provider will discuss the results with a patient before moving forward with pellet therapy.

What Happens During the In-Office Insertion?

During the in-office visit, which only takes a few minutes, patients are brought into the exam room, and the insertion site is numbed. The most common site of insertion is the upper buttocks. A small incision is then made for pellet insertion. Once the pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage.

What Happens During the Week Following the Insertion?

After pellet insertion, it's best to eliminate lower body exercise. Walking should be fine, but extraneous activity is not recommended. Swimming, hot tubs, and bathtubs are to be avoided; however, showers are permitted. After removal of the bandage, normal activity may resume.

How Often Is Pellet Insertion Necessary?

As each patient’s symptoms are unique, so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization. Each pellet therapy is customized to fit a patient’s specific needs.

What Happens to Pellets After Insertion?

Since pellets are bioidentical and contain hormones like those produced by the body, they are completely dissolved and absorbed, leaving nothing behind.
